Ooooh, Chanel

If you have not seen the Chanel Behind-the-Scenes Cruise 2006/7 footage from New York's Grand Central Station, you are so missing out. My favorite part is when Karl is looking at pictures from the photoshoot and says, "That's very Lindsay, non?" Ha ha ha.... LOVE!And going off Elsa's discussion about the financial aspect of Fashion Week, I love the new trend in showing resort collections. For example, most of Dior's profits come directly from resort, so why not showcase the collection in a high profile setting? Galliano, de la Renta, and Posen are finally getting the hint.
While it is inevitable, I am disappointed that fashion is becoming so business driven. Yes, globalization and survival in one of the most challenging markets leaves no room for puttering around the sewing room trying to expand personal horizons. But I do wish that the focus would shift from money to what this business really is about: style and fashion. It's lovely to have Viktor & Rolf designing a line for Target.... it's not so lovely that they are giving up their time to create beautiful couture for novelty pieces sold to suburban teenagers for $12.99. C'est la vie.
